What happened to these domains?

Postby Ole Juul » Tue Jan 19, 2016 10:11 am

I'm relatively new to the OpenDNS community, so wasn't there when some things happened. Does anybody know what happened to the .fur, .gopher, .ing, .micro, and .null domains? I have a feeling that a couple might still able to come back, but not sure. I guess it's hard to keep a TLD going since it needs to have a solid commitment which can be hard for a single person. My hat's off to those who manage. But what's the scoop on the ones I mentioned?

Today the .fur registration page was available. So that answers one question. You can find that page here: http://register.fur/

I also just found out that apparently .ing and .micro were shut down last year. That's two down.

That leaves .gopher and .null. A little more research and the .null registration page was found here: http://register.null/
The link on the OpenNIC home page just goes to the wrong place. I still haven't found a registration page for .gopher,
but checking some links on grep.geek it appears that the root server is still running because there are some live pages
so that one is still a mystery.

On the OpenNIC home page the list is just an html list so it would be a well spend 2 minutes of editing if somebody has access to that. :)
