Re: Backing Up The Forum

Ok, I'm back from the holidays. Thanks for the interest, I think doing an rsync over ssh would be the best for consistency. Push / Pull is up to whoever wants to take the backups.

Backing Up The Forum

Would anyone be interested in receiving a weekly or daily backup of the forum database just in case something happens to me? It's currently backed up to two sites but another custodian would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Forum Accessibility

I still need to look into this but it is still on my list. Haven't forgotten about it.

Re: DDoS in recent months

Cookies seem like a good idea but they don't help with the spoofing just the attribution so we'll have to see if anything happens with the fallout of the direct volumetric attacks of late. Those should be very attributable and hopefully those devices used in the attacks can be notified and patched. ...

The Worst gTLD

It's Friday, might as well have a fun thread. What is the worst gTLD that's been proposed, delegated or otherwise?

Re: DDoS in recent months

Was the KrebsOnSecurity attack an amplification based attack? I thought it was a direct volume attack. Either way amplification is still a big problem. Akamai says DNS accounts for 18% of attacks and has some interesting analysis of the Mirai malware. ( https://www.akamai.com/us/en/multimedia/docume...

Re: Why am I getting logged off?

Ya I didn't want a self-signed certificate warning being the first thing a user saw when getting to the site but SSL is available. Not ideal IMO but hopefully down the line there's a CA in the OpenNIC ecosystem.

Re: Why am I getting logged off?

Are you accessing the site via talk.geek or talkdotgeek.com? The rewrite only happens on talkdotgeek.com as the cert for talk.geek is a self signed certificate and that may cause more headache than it's worth. I think the issue was more that the update set the cookie expire to 0 days, not a cookie-o...

Re: Why am I getting logged off?

We did an update to the most recent version and there does seem to be a short timeout on the cookies, it got set to a 0 day cookie expire time. I rolled back to the standard layout to get back to working. Edit: I also set a rewrite rule to force SSL, a lack of which may have been affecting some of t...

DNS Looking Glass

After seeing https://dns.google.com, discussion on #opennic sparked the idea of adapting digbot to handle web based queries. I had an idea of the following workflow and features: 1) User opens page. 2) Ajax request queries GEOIP API to get closest/best T2s based on the client's network. 3) User is p...
